Downgrading MS SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise to MS SQL 2005 Standard?
Hi
We have legacy shared application/DB server that requires us to downgrade the installed MS SQL Version / Edition
The server hosts an older application and has a single database only within the installed SQL instance
We need to downgrade from MS SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise to MS SQL 2005 Standard.
If we backup/detach the DB, uninstall SQL 2008 R enterprise, install SQL 2005 Standard (same instance information) will it let us re attach the DB, or will 2005 reject it as its a newer DB version?

Ohh yes , My bad. Yes Chaau is correct. Scripting the schema and data is the way to go. <No points.>
Could not fix my comment, as Pawan was fast enough to comment.
I want to add that in the Advanced dialog you can also select what version your are scripting for. Select "Script for Server Version" as SQL Server 2005. That way the script will run in your 2005 version without errors

Downgrading from 2008 to 2005, is not suggested to have. Or you can set up 2005 from scratch.

Sorry but I can't agree with the suggested points splits.
HuaMinChen's didn't give any suggestion for the downgrade.

Qlemo, you still have a point with the compatibility level.

Al though I have not done this personally but below url might help you in degrading the SQL Server to the lower version.
Please follow the steps given at - https://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/3079/downgrade-from-sql-server-enterprise-edition-to-standard-edition/
Hope it helps!
