Help with preventing downloading a zip file

Hi,

Is there a way to control the download of a zip file by setting a password?

Thanks,

Victor

If it is where people can get it, you cannot prevent download. But a password on the ZIP certainly will prevent access to the file.

Where is the file located? You can have password protected sections of a website.

The file is in a shared folder, how do I setup a password on the zip file?

Thanks,

Victor
What program are you using to zip the file?
You can use WinZip or 7-Zip and when you compress the file, there is a setting to add a password.
You would have to created an encrypted zip file, which will allow you to apply a password to it.

As mansrock mentions, you can set passwords on folders to prevent general access to certain portions of websites.  Zip file encryption is not the best way to protect data.  It's better to create a separate password protected folder to prevent access.

In apache, you can set up htaccess and place password locks on certain folders.
In IIS, you can specify access permissions on folders and grant user and password access.
Thank You.
You are very welcome and I was happy to help you with this.
