Microsoft volume license for installation
hi,
just get the answer from Dell, if I have purchase Volume license, let said is windows 2012 server, every 90 days i can install on different server. is that true? is that mean after 90 days from purchase, i can install same license on different hardware server without purchase another license? do I need to buy more cals for same users? now I have bought the cals for the window 2012. thanks
thanks

If you are going to move your OS to other hardware every 90 days, you might as well use the trial version of the OS. A trial version should last you 180 days, and you can install it on more than one machine. Otherwise I don't really understand your Question and what it has to do with a VL. You can also reactivate other licenses every 90 days on other hardware provided you have disabled it on the previous hardware.
Besides that, how many licenses you get depend on the edition. Server Standard gives you 2 licenses, Essentials as far as I know only one, and datacenter as many as you need.

@rindi
It took quite a bit of effort on my part, but was eventually able to get a straight answer from Microsoft on the phone (with a link to back it up) that Server 2016 Essentials allows 2 VMs. The link pointed was about 2016 without explicitly mentioning Essentials, but he insisted that Essentials was included.

Nonetheless, as I read the terms (not a lawyer here), you can MOVE the license every 90 days (or quicker in cases of emergencies). You are still limited to one computer (a minimal host and 2 VMs, I believe) at a time.
