Recommendation for Video Editing Software
I'm trying to find a PC (Windows 10) video editor to do the following:
Take an existing long video (around an hour of footage), and create a series of short (approx 5-10 minute) videos with the following format:
Run a standard "intro" video, then the edited video, and finally show two pictures at the end.
I need to be able to add sound - ideally the sound should play after the intro video but it isn't essential.
I need to add text to the pictures, although I guess I could just edit the pictures, but it would be nice to be able to add text.
Can someone recommend one that is a reasonable price (if possible free, of course).
The top google result is this
http://www.techradar.com/news/software/applications/the-best-free-video-editor-1330136
but the comments show that the downloads have Trojans and the software recommended is pretty rubbish anyway.
The comments however do mention " Davinci Resolve" and "Hit Film" as better alternatives - are they any good?
A friend has suggested getting Adobe as you can pay something like £10 a month to use it as a service, but I wonder if that is just too much for what I want to do?

Great suggestions - thank you!
The AVS4YOU looks more like what I want - it is under $100 (in fact according to this http://www.avs4you.com/Register.aspx it is $59 - is that for the full thing?) and is hopefully more simple and straight forward to use.this is the price for the entire suite, lifetime license for ONE computer.
video editing is more complex than image editing, so the software takes more time to learn.
there are great help videos on the AVS4YOU site...

Thanks Paul - I had a look at the first recommendation on the free software - Avidemux - for some reason it would only save in avi format - although there appeared to be options to set other formats I couldn't get it to actually save in anything other than that. Plus it has some strange limitation that if you don't clip it at some special "keypoint" or something it says the video will be corrupted - anyway, I gave up with that.
I downloaded AVS4YOU and just from first impressions and having a quick go at my project it looks ideal. It seems pretty intuitive, which is the main thing, and does everything I want - and the price is very good!

However I did find this https://mixinglight.com/davinci-resolve-vs-davinci-resolve-lite/ which makes me think perhaps the free version might be ok - the website makes it look really complicated and difficult, but there do seem to be videos and tutorials, so I'll keep an open mind.

However I have to say the free stuff Paul lists looks like it does what I want and looks very simple and straight-forward

So I think I will get started on the free ones - if they aren't quite what I want then you have given me plenty of options to look at.
Thank you so much for your help, this is just right for getting me started.
