Best alternatives to Solarwinds
We are looking at alternative network / system monitoring options to Solarwinds, ideally that are cheaper or even free.
I only want answers from people that are using these alternative solutions with some detail about the sort of thing that they are monitoring with the solution. If you have previously used Solarwinds then I would be interested in how the solutions compare.
The sort of thing we are interested in are:-
I am interested in the best answer, not the quickest. If you just give me a product name or a Google search result then you will not get any points! :)
Thanks!

The sort of thing we are interested in are:-
- Monitoring nodes (Linux, Windows & switches) (packet loss, downtime etc).
- Services (restarting failed services).
- Network bandwidth and bottlenecks
- Overall system & network healthchecks

Interesting that ManageEngine is flagged as cheaper than Solarwinds as my research flagged it as more expensive!
I use observium and ntopng. between the 2 you get realtime and stored data relating to all of the above referenced items.
If you want to host it yourself, you can go free of license fee - zabbix.com is an open source based product.

A colleague mentioned Pandora FMS which hasn't been mentioned yet. Anyone had any experience of that?
