Could it be that your server is down?
Or could it be that there is some device (router/firewall) between server and client which isn't working correctly?
Can you successfully ping the server's IP from the client, and reverse?
Is port 1500 (default) free and available for use on the client side? Run "netstat -a" to verify.
Is the server's IP specified correctly in the client options file dsm.opt?

Run "Q node nodename f=d" from dsmadmc to see the IP address the server uses to connect to the client. Is it correct?

Hi Wool,
Hope you are doing well. The server with the tsm client is up and running. no firewall between TSM server and client

ping between tsm server and client is working:

Client to server:

ping 10.133.54.170
Pinging 10.133.54.170 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 10.133.54.170: bytes=32 time=14ms TTL=125
Reply from 10.133.54.170: bytes=32 time=7ms TTL=125
Reply from 10.133.54.170: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=125
Reply from 10.133.54.170: bytes=32 time=2ms TTL=125

Server to Client:

ping 192.168.3.8
Pinging 192.168.3.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.3.8: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=126
Reply from 192.168.3.8: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=126
Reply from 192.168.3.8: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=126
Reply from 192.168.3.8: bytes=32 time=1ms TTL=126

But when i try to do a telnet from TSM server to Client there is a failure:

telnet 192.168.3.8
Connecting To 192.168.3.8...Could not open connection to the host, on port 23: Connect failed

in the .opt file the server is defined by name: ej Node name: BIasv001  , should i chenge it with the server IP?

As usual , Thanks in advance!
If "Blasv001" reliably resolves to the correct IP then there is no need to change this setting.
Telnet should be run using the client port  (port 23 is of no interest here).

telnet clientaddress xxxx

xxxx = 1500 is the default. Please verify with "q node f=d" that "Low Level Address" hasn't been changed by someone
(only meaningful with "SESSIONINITIATION"SEVERONLY") and check the client's dsm.opt file for "Tcpclientport".
I think you should post the result of

q node nodename f=d

as well as the content of the client's dsm.opt file so I can have a look.

OK, some more questions/checks:

 - Is 192.168.3.8 actually the current IP address of the node in question "VWAA001"?

Are you able to reach that node from the server by name?

ping VWAA001

- Are you able to reach the server from that node by name?

ping VWSAPASTSMSRV01

Note: Ping by name, not by IP!

- Which is the server's communication port, and are you able to telnet from the node to that port on the server?

Run under dsmadmc on the server

Q OPT

and look for "TCPPort". This is the server's port for client communication over TCP/IP.

It should be 1500, because it's so configured in the client's dsm.opt! If it is something different then we found the reason for your issue!

Now try from a CMD window on the client node

telnet VWSAPASTSMSRV01 1500

You should get something like

Trying...
Connected to vmsapastsmsrv01.
Escape character is '^]'.

The important part is the word "Connected". Do you see it? Please don't expect more replies from the server, TSM cannot communicate via telnet!

Finally, run from a CMD window on the client node

netstat -a

You should not see port 1500 after a colon!

Please run all of these checks and report the results!
ok Wool,
                 Here are the results:
Both server and client are able to resolve ping by name:

-The telnet to tsm servers dont show any message (black screen and my prompt after 2 minutes)

-the netstat -a does not show 1500 port.

That is all i have.

Thanks in advance wool.
Black screen from telnet? OK, I forgot that telnet under Windows often clears the screen, regardless whether there is a connection or not.

Some Windows versions show the prompt in case of a successful connection after hitting <Enter> several times. but not in case of an unsuccessful connection where you'll have to wait for the timeout.

Don't you have any Unix/Linux client to try the telnet command to the server - just to see whether the server has its port 1500 open at all?
If not, then the backup of any other client should fail as well!
wool,
after hitting enter 2/3 times the promt back to me:

C:\Documents and Settings\vwaryh9_ad>

So i think the telnet session is stablished.

i forgot to coment : the query opt shows the port comunication is 1500.
Well, you could run a countercheck by running telnet against a port which is most probably closed, like 15000 or so, or check with netstat -a on the TSM server for a closed port and use this one for the above countercheck.

Does the prompt stil reappear after hitting <Enter> several times?
If all seems well you could, as a last resort, recycle the TSM scheduler service, or even reboot the client.

If all this fails, too, I fear I reached my wits' end. :-(
Yes, Still reapears.  It is really weird because the conectivity seems to be right. Maybe a windows 2003 random error /behavior?
Dont, Worry Wool im in contact with windows team and network security team.

Wool i have another issue, Can i add it here or  do you need a new question opened by me?

thanks in advance
