Hardware for Skype phone calls.
Windows 7 with a microphone plugged into the pink connector back of the tower. Green plug goes to the speakers. After making a call to voice mail the computer speakers allowed us to hear the dialing and the ringing and the voice mail of the person we were calling.
We were only given a second or two to begin to leave a message. It kept saying are you there.....
So we called our own cell phone and we left a 4 word message using the microphone. When the voice message was listened to there was nothing there but silence.
Step by step?
The only headset we have ever used was with Net2Phone so no headset here since we tried the dialing last week and the computer speakers let us hear it all. Tried today with a simple one wire mic with pink connector.

Not sure what a Windows search is.
Start > microphone and we got what you see. We moved the dot to the table top microphone and followed the directions and it appeared everything was fine.
We went to Skype and saw these audio settings but did not change anything. Just looked. Then we turned our cell phone off and called our number. The ringing was heard on the computer speakers. When the voice mail answered we left a short message and then told Skype to end the call. We turned on our phone and listened to the message and nothing was there. Silence.

You must be using Windows 10 for that image above and we have not used Net2Phone in many years and likely won't use it now.

you should be able to find Voice Recognition in the Control Panel (there is a search box at the top right) in Win7

Under the Speech tree item, under the Microphone section, select Get Started and let the wizard setup the mic for you from there.
