Cisco Trunk question
I have a current scheme (Diagram1) and I want to eliminate the Layer 2 switch and connect directly to the Layer 3 switch, using VLAN 162,,I just want to be sure if I connect the router to the Layer 3 switch (Diagram 2) using vlan 162 & 171, should I configure it as a trunk? or as mode access?
Thanks!

you need to configure the port as an access port. Since you're configuring vlans, you will need routing protocol on the L3 switch and the router or at least static routes for vlan 171. Are you running any Dynamic routing protocol?
ASKER
OSPF routing protocol,, but I would say that If I configure the port as:
Switchport trunk allowed vlan 162,171
Switchport mode trunk.
Isn't that would be an option?
