Using server 2012 R2 KMS host to activate Server 2016 clients

My admin want me to upgrade the current VAMT host, which sits on a 2012 R2 server to have the ability to authenticate Server 2016 clients. I've tried to add the KMS he gave me, but I get the following error:
"The specified product key is invalid or is unsupported by this version of VAMT. An update to support additional products may be available online."

The key I was given was listed as a KMS key. my VAMT is at Version 10.1.10586.0.

Any MS teach page sends me to one after another page, and I'm totally lost in there.

I have MAK keys installed for Office 16 Pro and Win 10 Enterprise.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

According to this Technet blog entry, there are two updates (KB3058168 and KB3172614) that must be installed on a 2012 R2 KMS server before it can activate 2016 KMS clients. And I believe you'll need to download and install a new KMS host key (which may be the key you were given) from the Volume License Service Center, but I'm not 100% certain about that.

Apparently KB3058168 was superseded or "fixed" with KB3172614. When I try to install KB3058168, I get "The update is not applicable to your computer", yet KB3172614 is installed on Aug 10, 2016.

If I install the 2016 Host Key, will that disrupt the current processes?
If you are all patched up and ready for Server 2016 keys, then you will want to make sure you are using the right key.

Here are the KMS Client Keys.

Where are you seeing that error? Are you attempting to install the product key provided from your Microsoft VLSC, or one of the client keys above?

... I make sure that it is getting the KMS client product key which is publicly available in the link above.

Pictured above, I chose the Win7 Enterprise client key.

Thanks for everyone's input and help. I was able o install the 2016 DataCtr/Std KMS key on the 2012 R2 VAMT/KMS server. I only had to add the KB KB3172614. The other KB3058168  Has apparently been superseded by KB3172614.
