VMware ESXi vswitch - performance question
So, theoretically is there a technical\performance advantage to using multiple vswitches over using a single vswitch and VLANs to create tighter L2 broadcast domains?
You can set the Security, Traffic shaping and teaming options on the separate portgroups and you can control broadcast traffic issues with VLANs. Also, you could theoretically attach all the vmnics to a single vswitch and use teaming and failover to point the port groups to the appropriate vmnics.
Obviously, it's much easier to view a networking configuration if the various traffic is separated out onto separate vswitches such as vswitch0 for MAnagement. vswitch1 for vmotion , vswitch2 for iscsi etc etc and I'd always promote that option BUT I'm curious to know if there are also PERFORMANCE reasons why it's better to have multiple vswitches each with their appropriate vmnics.
