Samsung J3 Sim card contacts not showing

I have just set up a new Samsung J3 mobile phone using a Sim card from my other phone ( A Nokia Lumina 520 Windows phone).
None of the contacts on the Sim card appear in the contacts of the Samsung phone ? the settings on the Samsung phone are to display All contacts. Any Ideas ?

The SIM card provides your carrier network authorization... It does NOT hold your contacts or any other user data!

Are you confusing the SIM card with an SD (storage) card?

Contacts are stored in the phones internal storage and is only transferable through a backup and restore to a PC or some Cloud storage.

If you are correct then why is it possible to purchase a device to read contact details from a SIM card ? See the following link for reference:
Maplin SIM card reader/Writer
When I got the Lumina 520, I simply inserted the SIM card from my previous phone and the contacts from the previous phone were shown so I would expect the same with a Samsung Phone ?
I am in US... That device is for older phones in UK...
You'll note it is obsolete and discontinued.
So I have an older SIM card, looks like I will have to enter the contacts manually. There is no SD card in my Lumina520 windows phone.

As there weren't too many contacts, I added them manually. The Nokia software for the Lumina windows phone only backed up the contacts in the phones memory and didn't back up the numbers in the SIM card.
Thanks for your comments,
