What is the difference between Calibri 2008 and Calibri 2016

We were recently required to purchase Calibri font for a project whereby the stakeholders were already using the latest version of Microsoft Office and wanted all the content branding to be Calibri.  It was also for Arabic/English typeface.  The Microsoft website directs font enquiries and purchases to a specific site, where we found 'Calibri' for print, ebook and web subscription.  However upon purchasing I have noted that this is a 2008 version.  There are no other versions available.   So essentially for the layperson, what are the fundamental differences between the two?  Arabic is not actually included in 2008 for one.  Thanks

i don't know the answer to your question (I don't know exactly where to go to try to get either of the versions you mention), so just a few questions & comments:

On what are you basing your claims of "2008" and "2016" for the different versions?
Are you claiming that your users of "... latest version of Microsoft Office ..." automatically have access to a 2016 version?
My Windows 10 Pro 64-bit system has Office 2013 installed; this appears to be the source of the Calibri fonts on the system (although I'm not 100% sure about this).
The Calibri (Regular) font on this system has a creation date of 2003-11-27, and a modified date of 2016-09-20 (presumably as the result of some sort of Windows update action), and a version number of 6.18.
The font contains 3364 characters, defined via 6442 separate glyphs; it includes all 255 characters from the Unicode Arabic range, all 48 characters from the Arabic Supplement range, and all 50 characters from the Arabic Extended-A range,
