understanding 'model code' of cars..
is 'model code' something that each auto manufacturer should have or is it optional?
for example, in https://www.toyotaofthedesert.com/new-inventory/index.htm
you see a 4 digit code for each vehicle kind
https://www.capitalfordofwilmington.com/newvehicles
(3 digit alphanumber)
but for another manufacturer, it is not so mentioned:
http://www.stevensonhonda.com/new-inventory/index.htm
i was not yet able to find a database of such model codes
question: is model code almost like a nickname for a car from its maker? is it an mandated code to distinguish exact kind of same car (for example sports edition of car has different model code than the regular version of the same car etc)

can you infer the model code: "1864" that we see above deduced from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_model_codes
