HP Pavillion 20 w/ replacement motherboard, needs activation.
We took in a Pavillion 20 AIO recently that the motherboard had gone out on. We bought a replacement for the board (specific to the model number of the machine), but now have no activation with Windows 8 (the original OS). Do we need a new Windows 8 OS? Is there another avenue that we could take? We've been unable to recover a serial license from the old board and with the PC being out of warranty, HP is practically unhelpful without fees of their own (Understandable, but hindering from the prospect of refurbishing a machine).

Sorry for such a late reply, folks. Unfortunately I went through the necessary steps with Microsoft and they were unable to assist. For the moment, we have a machine that will just have to sit for a bit. I'm gonna close the question, but I definitely appreciate the options provided by each of you.
