asked on

why is pst smaller?

why is pst smaller than actual mailbox size.

From EMC> Recipient config> properties for mailbox size reads 15213374 KB (15.2GB)
After exporting data to PST only 4GB.
Export method: From OL File> Export/Import Wizard everything including sub-folders >export

You might expect some difference because the PST file would wind up compacted. But that seems a lot of size difference for that.

Were you archiving within Exchange and then not pick up the archives?

Do you have all the email in the smaller file?

no archiving within exchange
Is all the email in the new PST file?
I deleted last file since it was 11GB to small and doing it again now
Is all the email in the PST file?
Outside of visually comparing it IDK. I will be able to do that in 30
Looks right. Dont feel right. 11GB difference. Missing something...
One thing about Outlook is that when you select folders you sometimes (frequently for me) have to drill down through each folders and make sure each folder AND all subfolders being exported (or whatever) have been selected. Clicking the top folder does not always select everything.

Try again and select and drill down through each folder you are exporting to make sure you have everything.
it does not allow for individual folder selection, nor has it ever. All I can do is select sub-folders to be included.
