How can I mark Outlook e-mail as read with one mouse click, and reading pane is off?
A fellow co-worker said her Outlook settings have changed when a forced reboot was done on her computer.
After the computer rebooted successfully, she said that when she clicked on e-mail message #1, which was "bolded" (indicating it was unread), she then clicked on e-mail message #2, which then made e-mail message #1 become "unbolded" (indicating it was read).
That no longer works in Outlook. She now has to double click on the message or view it in a reading pane, for it to be marked as "read".
Her View Settings are:
View \ View Settings \ Other Settings \ auto preview = preview all items
View \ View Settings \ Other Settings \ reading pane = off
What do I need to do, to have Outlook mark an e-mail as read, after clicking ONCE on it, WITHOUT viewing it in a reading pane?
Thanks for your help.

You need to set up Reading Pane to make a message "Read" after so many seconds. I use 2 seconds, but you can use 1 second and it will get marked "Read" quickly.

The only option I see in Outlook is "Mark items as read when viewed in the Reading Pane" (Wait n Seconds).
She does not use the Reading Pane at all. The Reading Pane was never enabled.

That's what I thought as well. She must double click to view the e-mail, or have the Reading Pane enabled.
She probably had Reading Pane on and forgot.

Yes, believe so as well.

I will check with her right now.
