MIcrosoft Word 2016, table goes to top of page and covers Header

Hello experts,

Building a rather large document (70 pages and counting) on a software application for a large corporation. In the middle of doc is a table that is about seven pages long. The top of the table refuses to be positioned underneath the Header and goes to and stays at the very top of the page.

So I made the first dozen or so rows a separate table and was able to get it to position underneath the page Header. But the rest of the table rammed up against the top of the second page of the table. Made the next group of rows into a second table but the third table is, you guessed it, stuck against the top of the third page.

I guess I could go on breaking the big table into smaller chunks but I perceive this as a maintenance nightmare especially since the doc is intended to be used for some time for training and technical documentation.

How can I get the table to start underneath the header?

It seems to be ok on subsequent pages, heeding the space for the header. but on the first page it overlays the Header.

Thanks,

Allen in Dallas
