Cisco 2960 unable to add SFP modules to device
Hi
I have added the sfp modules to the cisco 2960 and getting the following errors:
Mar 2 03:48:17.062: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi1/0/51, putting Gi1/0/51 in err-disable state
Mar 2 03:48:51.343: %PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi1/0/50 is not supported
Mar 2 03:48:51.343: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi1/0/50, putting Gi1/0/50 in err-disable state
Mar 2 03:49:09.400: %PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi1/0/52 is not supported
Mar 2 03:49:09.400: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi1/0/52, putting Gi1/0/52 in err-disable state
A sh interface shows that it is disabled.
BKGNDCR1SW01#sh int gi1/0/49
GigabitEthernet1/0/49 is down, line protocol is down (err-disabled)
Hardware is Gigabit Ethernet, address is 2c86.d2c5.8bb1 (bia 2c86.d2c5.8bb1)
Description: Link to Core bkcswp01
MTU 1500 bytes, BW 10000 Kbit/sec, DLY 1000 usec,
reliability 255/255, txload 1/255, rxload 1/255
Encapsulation ARPA, loopback not set
Keepalive not set
Auto-duplex, Auto-speed, link type is auto, media type is unknown
input flow-control is off, output flow-control is unsupported
ARP type: ARPA, ARP Timeout 04:00:00
Last input never, output never, output hang never
Last clearing of "show interface" counters never
Input queue: 0/75/0/0 (size/max/drops/flushes); Total output drops: 0
Queueing strategy: fifo
Output queue: 0/40 (size/max)
5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
5 minute output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
0 packets input, 0 bytes, 0 no buffer
Received 0 broadcasts (0 multicasts)
0 runts, 0 giants, 0 throttles
0 input errors, 0 CRC, 0 frame, 0 overrun, 0 ignored
0 watchdog, 0 multicast, 0 pause input
0 input packets with dribble condition detected
0 packets output, 0 bytes, 0 underruns
0 output errors, 0 collisions, 1 interface resets
0 unknown protocol drops
0 babbles, 0 late collision, 0 deferred
0 lost carrier, 0 no carrier, 0 pause output
0 output buffer failures, 0 output buffers swapped out
When i try to change the media type on the interface i get the following errors:
media-type sfp
the command is not available, is there a way around this, hope i don't need to update IOS
cheers

Cisco switch 2960 and cisco sfp 10g SR
In that case, if you 2960 hardware vesrion support 10Gb SFP, most likely you will need to upgrade IOS version to at least minimum version.

does that mean the SFP 10G SR is not supported in the Cisco 2960 switches as the interface is Gib?
Is there a work around or do we need to purchase new modules?

Thank you all for the support.
Did you get third party or Cisco SFPs?
