Cisco 2960 unable to add SFP modules to device

Hi

I have added the sfp modules to the cisco 2960 and getting the following errors:

Mar  2 03:48:17.062: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi1/0/51, putting Gi1/0/51 in err-disable state
Mar  2 03:48:51.343: %PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi1/0/50 is not supported
Mar  2 03:48:51.343: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi1/0/50, putting Gi1/0/50 in err-disable state
Mar  2 03:49:09.400: %PHY-4-SFP_NOT_SUPPORTED: The SFP in Gi1/0/52 is not supported
Mar  2 03:49:09.400: %PM-4-ERR_DISABLE: gbic-invalid error detected on Gi1/0/52, putting Gi1/0/52 in err-disable state


A sh interface shows that it is disabled.

When i try to change the media type on the interface i get the following errors:

media-type sfp

the command is not available, is there a way around this, hope i don't need to update IOS

Looks like your SFPs are incompatible with switch.

Did you get third party or Cisco SFPs?
Which device exactly and SFP?

Cisco compatibility lists devices and SFPs

Cisco switch 2960 and cisco sfp 10g SR
In that case, if you 2960 hardware vesrion support 10Gb SFP, most likely you will need to upgrade IOS version to at least minimum version.

2960-S, 2960-X & 2960-XR models 10Gb SFP compatibility lists

does that mean the SFP 10G SR    is not supported in the Cisco 2960 switches as the interface is Gib?

Is there a work around or do we need to purchase new modules?

No does not seem to be on the list as it is a WS-C2960XR-48FPS-i=I V05
Then you need other device Cisco Catalyst 2960XR-48FPS-I does not have 10Gb support SFP+ modules have 10Gb support
