Active Directory Migration - Server 2012 to Server 2012
Hi everyone,
This might be silly question for some, please avoid answering if you think so. :)
We have got one DC (Windows server 2012) in our infrastructure, now we want to move it to new hardware, with new domain name.
So what I have done is -
- Created new Domain Controller (Windows 2012 Server)
- Configure DNS etc, ( We are running DHCP server in our virtual router, so we didn't have to do much about it)
- I have tested creating Users, joining domain etc. works fine.
my question is - How do transfer all the Users and Computer/Roles/services/Sh ared drives from old server to new server?
Also, we do not want to have same directory structure so we do not want whole AD migration as well.
Please suggest how should I go about it. Please feel free to questions. :)
Many thanks in Advance.

Use Active Directory Migration Tool (ADMT) https://connect.microsoft.com/site1164/program8540
It can migrate users, groups and computer and do permission translation (shares on servers). You can always remove SIDHistory attribute or disable SID translation after the migration
It comes with a tool that can sync and update passwords from old domain too

@leeW - Thank you so much for the response. When you say "Install second DC in existing domain you" - you mean create a child/tree domain? and then create all the users/groups/shares manually?
@Shaun - Thanks Shaun. How do you clear old SID history? and is it a big problem? thanks

You can use the active directory migration tool to transfer users and computers (I never liked this method though as it needs to keep SID histories. But I don't believe the tool can handle groups so they need to be recreated as well as shared drives and permissions.
