Setup Ubuntu 16.04 to use LDAP for user login and authentication
I am looking for step by step instructions on setting a clean install of Ubuntu 16.04 LTS to authenticate against a Windows server 2012 AD via LDAP
LDAP on AD is all running fine, and all users are in cn=users,dn=domain,dn=loca l
There see to be some information around (ie http://www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linux/ubuntu-how-tos/configure-ldap-client-on-ubuntu-16-04-debian-8.html) but nothing so far that I have been able to get working.
I also need to for the local user to login at the console using LDAP, not just for remote SSH sessions.
The Ubuntu machine doesn't necessary need to be joined to the windows domain, but if that's the only way then please say.
Thanks in advance.

I had to sudo apt-get remove avahi-daemon to overcome the join failure
