Get Started with Digital Signatures

I'm looking at how to get our agency going with digital signatures.  I would need to be able to digital sign pdf's, word docs and excel.

How do I get started?

Thanks

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Maybe this will help

Electronic Signatures

Or do you mean that you want to sign code? In which case you will need to purchase but a code signing certificate. Other providers are also available.

Digital signature
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A digital signature is a mathematical scheme for demonstrating the authenticity of digital messages or documents. A valid digital signature gives a recipient reason to believe that the message was created by a known sender (authentication), that the sender cannot deny having sent the message (non-repudiation), and that the message was not altered in transit (integrity).

Obviously, this is not provided by applying a scanned copy of your signature to a document, which may consider as  being a 'Digital signature'. Before being able to digitally sign a a document, you need to purchase a Security Certificate from a Certificate authority

Please refer to this Microsoft article on this subject: Digital signatures and certificates
More and more people and organizations are using digital documents instead of paper documents to conduct day-to-day transactions. By reducing dependency on paper documents, we are protecting the environment and saving the planet’s resources. Digital signatures support this change by providing assurances about the validity and authenticity of a digital document.

Thanks for the responses.
I am looking to how to purchase, setup, configure our agency to begin using digital signatures and/or certificates.  To electronically sign documents in the form of PDF's, docx and xlsx.  But not limited to just these document types.

Good reading the two of you have provided.
