SDD Raid with SATA hard drive

1-Can raid work with 1 is a SSD and the other SATA?
2-Will I get the speed of the SSD or will the SATA slow it?
3 do thy need to be the same size?

Technically you can do RAID with a USB stick, a SSD drive, and a SCSI disk all with different sizes if your controller (or software RAID stack) supports it.    With LINUX software RAID, you can mirror two partitions on the same disk to a RAID5 array built with 3 other drives  and a uSB stick.  

So it comes down to what controller, or O/S software stack you use. THOSE will constrain you.

As for needing to be the same size, again, it depends.  But assuming you are doing RAID1, then the usable space will be lowest common denominator.
