How to transfer FSMO roles from SBS 2011 Std to Server 2016 Std?

Hey Guys,

I need assistance with transferring FSMO roles from SBS 2011 Std to Server 2016 Std.  We are not using the Exchange and SharePoint.  Company data have already been transferred to the new domain controller.  It's ready to be retired.  Does anyone know of a good article to follow?  Thanks in advance!

Hi Joseph,

After transfering the FSMO roles, I can retire the server by shutting dow, correct?  There is no other steps required, right?  Thanks!
Uninstall exchange (you said you aren't using it, but didn't indicate if it is still installed and just dormant.)  Uninstalling cleans up one lingering AD objects.

Then demote as a DC. For the same reason.
What Cliff said.  Make sure Exchange is removed because it does leave a lot of stuff in Active Directory.  After that, demote the server and then remove it from the domain.

After that, it's pretty much like it was never there.
Thanks guys.  I have successfully transferred the FSMO roles.
