WE have just installed Gimp on a community computer -- I am a complete novice.

This means I need help frequently, but 'Help' tells me I must install Glib Network.

What is it? Where do I find it? Is there a charge? Is there no other way to get help than by installing yet another bit of software?

Hope someone can help.

1 - what operating system (Windows/Mac/Unix)?

2 - what version of Gimp (2.8/ 32 bit or 64 bit)?

3 - where did you download Gimp from?

i have been using Gimp for quite a few years (Unix & Windows (Vista/Windows 7/Windows 10)  and when i have not installed the help file on my computer, it should automatically open the internet version on the Gimp site. i have never seen the message
install Glib Network

is this the entire message you are getting:
TLS/SSL support not available; install glib-networking

from what i can find (http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14825), you should install the help system in the same folder as the Gimp program...

Sorry to be so long answering, I only go to that computer once a week or so.

The OS is Windows 10.

Gimp is version 2.8

The full error message is "TLS/SSL support not available. Install GLIB Networking"

Hope that is helpful

Thanks a lot. I'll give it a try
This solved the problem for me, thanks!  "Use a locally installed copy", of course :)

:) Thanks again.  Your answer solved my problem.  I am going to "Initiate Auto Close" now that I've figured out how to do that, too :)
