ASA 5505 IOS and ASDM Upgrade

We currently have an ASA 5505 with ios version: 8.2(3) and device manager (i guess asdm): 6.4(5)106. The ios file is asa825-k8.bin. The device also has security plus license.

If we want to upgrade this device ios and asdm, what would be the recommended ios and asdm  versions to upgrade it to?   Will it require  changes in the running/start configuration code?   Would there be any other files to upgrade or anything else that will need to be checked or be aware off?

Before we upgrade from our current version 8.2(3) to OS 9.2(4), don't we have to upgrade to an interim version first?

Yes, you do need to upgrade to an interim version. You need to first upgrade to 8.4(5), then you can move on to 9.x.

Cheers!

^^ Is correct, However, in truth Ive have never done that in 20 years of upgrading thousands of firewalls I've gone from 7.2 straight to 9.2 never had a problem ever - But I religiously back them up first, so If I did have problem I'd restore them - though downgrading to 8.2 does format the flash again.

Security

Security is the protection of information systems from theft or damage to the hardware, the software, and the information on them, as well as from disruption or misdirection of the services they provide. The main goal of security is protecting assets, and an asset is anything of value and worthy of protection. Information Security is a discipline of protecting information assets from threats through safeguards to achieve the objectives of confidentiality, integrity, and availability or CIA for short. On the other hand, disclosure, alteration, and disruption (DAD) compromise the security objectives.
