FTP Transfer Speeds ...
My FTP Download & Upload speeds *seem* to be slower than they were in the past.
Does anyone know the data rate at which your FTP UL's and DL's at? I realize that there are lots of variables that affect it, but it would be good to know if I am even in the ballpark.
I am using CuteFTP for Mac, for ISP I have FIOS 50 up & 50 Down.
And I typically get an average speed of approx 200KB Upload and 1.0MB Download (CuteFTP shows Capital B in kB and MB, so I assume that means Bytes)

So many variables, where to start, are you using wireless vs wired, time of day, heavy usage, does your Mac have a virus, how many other activities you're performing while using ftp, and what size files are u uploading to the net and frequency.
Where are you uploading and downloading to? If your destination has a slow connection it's not going to matter what you have. Have you tried online speedtests? They are not perfect, but depending on how many other devices are active at the time, they can be REASONABLY accurate.

I am transferring files between a Mac at Home (that has the FIOS connection) and a Commercial Web Host. No wireless, all cable from the one Mac to FIOS Modem. Ookla's (sp?) Speedtest.net clocks at what I would expect ... 50 up & 10 down (I stand corrected ... my connection is 50/10, not 50/50)
I just did a quick ftp test just now, uploading a single 30MB file, and I got 3.0 MB/sec.
Can anyone report here what they are getting for speeds? Would be great to see some numbers! I am not worried about it unless I am off by a factor of 10 or 100 !
