Outlook 2016 IMAP trash vs. deleted folders

I am setting up an email account on Outlook 2016 with IMAP server settings.  When I delete a message I want it to go to the delete or trash folder but remain available for future reference.  Is there a difference between trash & deleted folders?  I have UNchecked both boxes in the "deleted items" for internet email settings".  Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Outlook will use the Deleted folder for the Trash folder when using IMAP mail. If you have the options for deleted items unchecked, stuff that goes to the trash folder should remain for as long as the mail server is configured to retain them. It's impossible to know how long that is, since every server can be configured for a different retention period. 30 days is fairly common, though. The ability to change that period of time depends on the server, and whether you can change it also depends on who provide email for you, so it's difficult to provide guidance. If you can let us know who your mail provider is, that would probably help.

Thank you for the quick reply Adam!  Godaddy is the email provider.  I will poke around my settings within godaddy and see if I have any control over such parameters.
