Frequency distribution of horizontal data?

Last Modified: 2017-03-10
I'm tring to show the distribution of scores (1 to 5) given in a survey.  Trouble is, the data is arranged horizontally and I want to show the distribution horizontally.  All the tutorials only show how to do it with a vertical set of data and bin.  If I input the formula (eg =frequency(A4:M4,R4:V4)  I get non-sensical scores.  Am I doing something wrong?

you can create a set of data vertically from your horizontal data

select the horizontal data, copy
select a cell and paste special > transpose

or better if you can upload a copy of the excel file

Are you trying for a histogram?

Hi Rey, I was trying to avoid having to re-format the data.  Is that the only way of doing this?  Maybe a limitation of Excel?

Hi Serena, no I was just needing to show the frequency distribution in numbers, eg
1 3 5 6 2
1 2 3 4 5

Test file attached so you can see what I am trying to do.

Perfect!  Thank you so much.  I'd read something about using the Index function but only thought it worked for swapping the orientation of the data.  I didn't know it could be combined with the frequency function.  That has saved me SO much time!
