Windows 10 cellular connection not visible after sleep

I have a HP Elitebook 840 G1 running Windows 10 Enterprise with a inbuilt HP lt4112 Gobi 4G module. The actual module runs perfectly fine and if the machine is switched on from a cold boot, it shows in the network connections list and connects in seconds and works 100% fine.

Now, if the machine goes to sleep or hibernation (i.e. lid closed), upon wake, all references to cellular/WWAN are not present anymore anywhere in the OS. The actual hardware is present in device manager and functioning fine, however there is no reference to a cellular/WWAN connection in the network connections list. The only way to restore it is to restart the machine, at which point it will come back and continue to work, until the lid is closed and then it happens all over again.

Does anyone else have this issue? I'm running the latest drivers from the HP website, including BIOS. The cellular card is a genuine HP item suited for this notebook.

Thanks!

Just realised this machine has a HP ServicePack on it so I've put to HP to be their issue.

Tried all the latest drivers however the versions I've tried today are the same as what I've tried a few months ago when this issue first arose.

Interestingly, despite having the lt4112 drivers installed, the driver provider for the device is still listed as Microsoft and the driver looks to be a 'generic mobile broadband adapter'. I'm blocked by device manager if I attempt to force the HP driver to be used (ewgnss.inf within the Win10X64 directory of SP76944).

Can you check if you have HP Communication Recovery Tool / HP Sure Connect (the latter is the newest iteration) running as a service on the laptop?

That utility is meant to keep polling the network connection and keep it active, especially following any power saving states.

However it normally defaults to running the HP driver so the issue may be more about why the generic driver is running as preferred.

Does Sure Connect take over the native OS management of WWAN/Cellular?

Still trying with HP at the moment. It seems the HP driver (SP76944) installs however the OS still prefers the Microsoft generic driver. Forcing the OS to install the HP driver turns the card into a "Generic Mobile Broaband Adapter" and all references to Cellular/WWAN in the OS disappear again.

Also tried some Huawei M906E drivers with the same result.

Sure Connect service is running. I don't see a UI for Sure Connect is this normal?

Can anyone share with me the actual driver file they used for their lt4112 with Windows 10 64-bit?

SureConnect is a background service with "no user servicable parts" so no UI :(
I know it's meant to use HP drivers in preference but don't know this model so can't give you anything other than generic advice on which driver needs tracking down. Maybe look through similar devices on HP's site for older/younger versions or different devices with similar USB DEV/VEN identifiers.

So after some back and fourth between HP for the last week or so, and collecting logs and system information using their Image Diag tool, they've come back with to update the Chipset (SP78724), IME (SP74763), as well as install their own system updates (SP77633), system default settings (SP78552) and perform another firmware update on the WWAN (SP78935).

I was considerably hesitant with the second last two given it may tinker with the OS to HP's liking based on their standard image however it hasn't done anything adverse that I can see just yet.

This was after they had suggested reinstalling the WWAN driver and performing a BIOS update.

I did this last night and the issue has not reoccurred, and it normally would have by now. I will monitor for a week and report back here and to HP also.

Cheers.

Issue is resolved. It would have reoccurred by now. Lets put it down to a driver issue.
