CAPM vs PMP

I want to take the PMP but afraid I don't have the experience required so alas I am probably going to take the CAPM. Do you all know the difference as far as studying is concerned?

I have Rita's PMP exam prep, but don't want to study 600+ if I can study her 400+ book for CAPM. I don't have the CAPM book yet for Rita, as it's a hefty price!!

Thanks
D

So if I don't have a lot of real world experience I should probably suffice with the CAPM, right?

The PMP requires 7500 hours of directing projects and the CAPM 4500 hours. It pays to have really worked on projects and managed them before attempting either of these exams. You will need to provide details of your experience and proof would be required to support your claim.

Cramming from a textbook just for the sake of earning a credential is equivalent to just gaming the system and wouldn't help you in the long run.

At the end of the day if completing the CAPM is a requirement for your current situation then do it, else gain the required experience as a Project Manager and the PMP will be a cinch, come Rita's prep or not.
