virtual cisco switch

Hi,

I am looking for a inexpensive way to connect a cisco switch in a lab and not have a huge electric bill like a Cisco 2950 or 3560. It would be nice if I can connect a SOHO 24 port device and run a CISCO IOS on top of that. I do not think thats possible but the SOHO switch would use less power. Any alternatives out there.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

A 2950-24 switch has a power consumption of 30W, maximum. A quick bit of Googling indicates the average price of electricity in California to be  13.6 cent per KWh.  Doing the math, that means the switch would use, at most 68c worth of power per week of constant running.

Not sure what your financial priorities are, but I think I could live with that.
