GPO Not Applying

GPO that redirects user's desktop only applies when the logged in user runs gpupdate /force, logs off and logs back in.

This is a school so the user's are students in an IT suite, and it seems like they have to do this every time they return to the classroom on a different day.

Check the logs and see if something like this shows up: NETLOGON 5719 Error  PM GroupPolicy 1055

Could be the computer hasn't had network connectivity yet by the time you logon. Maybe you should also apply the :"Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon"

I agree with above, enable "Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon".  Sounds like it simply isnt getting the policy quick enough due to no communication initially.

Makes sense, but I see thats a local policy. So does that mean I have to log on to each PC and apply that?
No it will apply on the  domain level no need for individual setting.

As well as the suggested, I also found that lowering the slow-link detection level also helped to resolve the issue.
