ESXi 5.5 incompatibility when migrating VM

Hi all,

Im trying to migrate a number of VM.s from a host to upgrade it. All of them have moved (all V8 hardware) apart from one which is throwing an error. Going from a HP Gen8 to a Gen7

The virtual machine requires hardware features that are unsupported or disabled on the target host: General incompatibles If possible, use a cluster with EVC enabled.

How are you performing the migration....probably you can remove Vmware tools and image the machine ...then you perform an image restore using the recovery disk of the application you used to image the VM.

Yes I'm aware of that, but all the others moved which is why I'm confused.

Hi,

You could check in the VM if the EVC mode is enable or N/A like the others.

It looks like you either have EVC mode enabled on these VMs (at some point) or you have a custom CPUID Mask set. Either way you will require an outage to change this.

The other option would be to set EVC mode on your new cluster to a lower level, but you would need to shutdown all VMs on this cluster. Lesson for next time you do this I guess...

why not build a new DC on the other server and migrate over?  then you can decommission the current one and don't have to worry about moving it
