It is possible to have &quot;mixed collation&quot; environments - but almost universally they are not encouraged because it can get complex.<br />
From my old memories on this it is temp space being of a different collation that makes it particularly awkward. <br />

Almost every query you now use on that Spanish db will need to EXPLICITLY specify the collation to use, particularly if using temp tables. It's painful and that collation error can be difficult to hunt down though existing code.<br />
