Seatools for DOS is a pretty old product now, and I would not expect it to recognize modern drives ... certainly not SATA controllers, except possibly those in &quot;legacy&quot; or &quot;compatibility&quot; mode.<br />

Windows 10.<br />
I have the Windows drive disconnected at the moment, and just have the potentially bad drive connected.<br />
The drive shows up in the list of available bootable drives as well.

I read the troubleshooting part of the pdf, and it says to do what I have done.<br />
Make sure to boot from the USD or CD (I am doing a USB).<br />
It just shows FreeDos.<br />
And does nothing else.<br />
There is nothing in the manual that talks about the display of FreeDos.

If Windows 10 can not starup correctly then you have to Create a USB Installation for Windows 10 on other computer or use Window 10 installation DVD.

I suspect that it can't get into the graphics or text mode required to run and has dropped back to the command prompt.<br />
<br />
You'll have to use DOS commands to find the executable to try and run it again.<br />
<br />
Type dir and press [Enter] and report back what files it finds.<br />

As an alternative consider taking this drive and USB stick across to an older machine and retrying this operation there.

Okay, here are some instructions that might be helpful in this case.<br />

1.Download <a href="https://www.megaleecher.net/uploads/SeaTools_Bootable_USB_Kit.zip" rel="ugc">SeaTools_Bootable_USB_Kit.<wbr />zip </a>(Filehosting Mirror's : 8.3 MB) and extract to desktop.<br />
2.Double-click Win32DiskImager.exe to launch &quot;Win32 Disk Imager&quot; which we use to create the bootable USB disc.<br />
3.Use the &quot;Folder&quot; icon in &quot;Win32 Disk Imager&quot; to browse the &quot;SeaTools.img&quot; file located in same folder.<br />
4.Make sure the removable disc is plugged into your computer and you are ready to loose any data on that disk, Click &quot;Write&quot; and let the bootable USB disk creation process start.<br />
5.Once completed your removable USB disk should have files like the ones below.<br />

There is no reason to run sea tools. &nbsp;The deal with that particular drive is that it is getting too many ECC errors, it is also having problems with the servo. &nbsp; (Note that the screen shot for registers 1 &amp;&nbsp;9, the raw value is not being interpreted correctly by that software. &nbsp;They are presenting a raw 48 bit number, where the two field in question, which are out of whack are 64-bit numbers broken into two different fields which provide a ratio. &nbsp;I can't (well, won't) due to NDA with seagate as interpretation is not public domain.<br />
<br />
Bottom line, even if you had sea tools running, it wouldn't tell you anything else. It won't be able to detect the nature of this particular issue you have. &nbsp; The S.M.A.R.T. long test won't detect the errors your drives show. &nbsp;<br />
<br />
High ECC errors in combination with seek errors are typically pretty bad. &nbsp; You probably have unrecovered errors as well, which you would see if you panned down. <br />
<br />
So here is the deal, they are cumulative. &nbsp;Unless you temporarily ran the system either in the hot sun, or while in a truck driving off-road, then you have an issue that warrants replacement. &nbsp; &nbsp;Rather than tell you to replace drive now, &nbsp;do this.<br />
<br />
&nbsp;- take a baseline of the numbers, all the SMART registers.<br />
&nbsp;- do full backup (bit level)<br />
&nbsp;- view the numbers gain. &nbsp; <br />
<br />
report back the delta (but understand that report is only showing 48 bits worth of 64 bits data, so i can't be exact, best i can do is take educated guess)<br />
<br />
Highly likely you need to replace the drive.

I have already done the backup, took about 7 hours to do it.<br />
About 95% of the data was backed-up from about 1/2 capacity of a 1tb drive.<br />
(So, yeah. about 500GB of data was backed-up from 8:30 till around 4:00 this afternoon)

it took 7 hours .. there is your proof, getting way to many errors even during the backup , so too many retries.<br />
No reason to even put the disk back in, that disk is toast. &nbsp; In fact, it could very well have corrupted some data already on it.

P.S. that screen shot with sea tools running under QEMU shows that the diagnostics were looking at an EMULATED disk. &nbsp;Test results are worthless, it was running diagnostics on a virtual drive that was mapped to the physical blocks.<br />

The make/model of the drive in combination with the message about 'SMART is not supported' is a dead giveaway.<br />
<br />
NEVER EVER EVER run HDD diagnostics except on the native O/S supported by the disks, never also run disks behind USB or bridge chips, as they emulate commands and diagnostic results are worthless

Yeah, I did not pay much attention to what was in the images.<br />
I have done the Windows and Dos test before, but this was the first time that the DOS did not work.<br />

Well, not only did I have 1 drive go bad. (All the bad data, did not transfer over, all the good data did, Luckily.)<br />
But, I clicked on the other drive (3 drives in the box, 1 - Main, 2nd backup, 3rd - 1tb for the rest)<br />
The 1tb is the one that I posted this thread about,<br />
When I noticed something in the EventViewer for the other driver.<br />
Then I clicked on it, within the &quot;Passmark Disk Checkup&quot; and noticed that it had a red mark.<br />
SPIN RETRY COUNT = FAIL<br />
<br />
That drive I have had for nearly 10 years. It is a 320GB.<br />
For the last 5yrs or so. The drive will CLICK for about 20 seconds and then would not do it again for another month or so.<br />
It has not CLICKED for about a year now. (Unless it has done while I'm asleep or gone)<br />
And now, it has finally started showing error logs and is about to bite the bullet.<br />
<br />
Backed up all the data from both drives, to a USB External drive, and to the DC Server.<br />
So, all is good.<br />
Now, just have to get some new drives, and retire all the old ones that I have, before I run out of space to back stuff up too.<br />

that let me know for sure that my drive(s) (in this case, I had two drives go bad today).<br />
