use the activate by phone option.. It would appear that you've passed the activation expiry date.

What does that do

What version of Windows was installed?  Where did the Product Key come from?  What happens when you try to activate by internet?  What about when you activate by phone?

As David indicated, you have passed the time limit for using WIndows without activation.  You need to activate it.

Activation will send information to Microsoft and they'll confirm that your Product Key is valid.  If you do this by internet, it will automatically set your Windows installation to be activated.  If you do it by phone, you'll get a long string of numbers to type in and they will set your Windows as activated.

I did. That it saids we have to have internet
All i have it hotspot onmy phone

You tried by phone and it said you need to have internet access?  I've activated many computers before without internet access (using the phone method) and have never gotten this message.  Did the phone method give you the option of sending you a link to your phone so you could enter the numbers there?

What happens when you try to activate by internet?

I'm not understanding what happened when you tried to activate by internet or by phone.  Some details would be useful.
Where did the license key come from?

Did he reinstall Windows using the recovery partition or HP CDs - as others have already hinted at the installation disk type is critical here, apart from having exceeded the 30 day activation period, you'll get this option if you've installed from an incompatible disk (eg using a Dell CD to install to an HP machine).

My wife talk to a live person on the phone and beacause we dont have internet access it wont let us do anything because we can't get in the computer at all to do anything it is stuck on start up at activate windows screen
Scott Silva

When you use phone activation you do not need the internet... You read them some letters numbers, and they read you back some different info... You type in what they tell you, and you are activated... But if you are trying to install a newer version of windows AFTER XP was removed, you have to boot from the CD drive to install...

"it is stuck on start up at activate windows screen"
Can you get to the screen where it gives you the phone number to call and also the many (35?) digits that you'll read or type for activation?

This page
Activation by Phone
But you'll only be here if you have installed a version of XP other than HP's OEM copy
CompProbSolv

Exactly.....
You mentioned calling Microsoft to activate.  One would usually get the phone number from the screen MASQ has shown.  From where did you get the phone number to call?
