Printer not installing

It's hp lassrjet pro 400 m401n

Keep getting error that says a problem occurred while preparing to install software to your system. Please restart your computer and run this installer again

It's a windows 7 computer

Please help!!!!

Remove the printer from Devices and Printers if it is there.
Now go to Programs and Features and remove the printer package from Programs and Features. If more than one, remove all.

Now go to Devices and Printers, and click once on one printer device. This opens the Print Server Management  tab. Go to Drivers, and remove the driver.

Close out, shut down, start up and try installing again.

Changed the Print Spooler to manual (in services.msc).
Run msconfig. Go to services tab and checked the box to hide all Microsoft Services and then disable ALL of the remaining services, saved and rebooted.

Not even in the driver tab?

Make sure Windows 7 is up to date including for sure ALL .NET Framework. People like to turn updates off

Uninstall ALL HP software in Control Panel. Reboot!
 
In the Printer settings (within the printer obviously, not the PC) , go to the Service menu > Smart Install > and turn it OFF!
NOW, with the PC and printer on, connect the printer to it via USB. Allow it to detect and install drivers automatically this way (including the Windows Update checks). Once done you'll be able to use it as normal. There's no need to do anything further.
