I have a Yahoo account which is having mail forwarded to it from a domain mail server. I'd like to keep it that way if possible.

The problem: Thunderbird (which has one account only [Yahoo] configured) seems to require more than just additional SMTP accounts configured in order to choose from which address to send a mail. The goal is to be able to send from x@domain, y@domain etc. at will. I'm hoping to be able to achieve this goal without adding additional accounts in Thunderbird. Is it possible?

No, it is not possible for Thunderbird to send from something it doesn't know about. You must add the second server if you want to be able to use Thunderbird to send from it.
