Windows 10 phone won't open .exe files

I bought a Windows 10 phone to demo our apps, but first I need to download and install some safe, generic .exe files that run on every Win10 device I've ever used--including the Win10 laptop I'm using right now.  But on this phone, they will download using Edge, but when I go to open the .exe, it will say "This kind of file won't open on your phone."  How can I run them?  TIA

What specific manufacturer and model phone do you have?

ASKER

It is a Microsoft Lumia RM-1073.  I was assuming and hoping that if it ran Windows 10--which it does--that it would act like a normal Win10 computer.  Not necessarily so?

You cannot install .EXE files on a windows phone and you can't do this on a windows mobile phone either.  You can only use software you've installed via the Marketplace on your Windows Phone.
Then why is the option to Sideload apps available in the developer section of the "update & security" menu.
