I'm running vSphere 6.5. I am trying to create a 2012 server using an ISO. When it boots to the ISO, I have no control. I have the box checked to check and upgrade vmtools before power up but I thought vmtools loads once the OS is up and running. So at a loss.

You have to install VMware Tools, it's not automatic.
So the OS needs to be running, and you have to be logged in to the OS.
How are you connected to the console, using the host client, or vSphere Client ?

That is what I thought. I am using the web client.
