unable to reinstall SCVMM 2012 R2 - SQL errors.
Hey Guys,
I am unable to reinstall SCVMM 2012 R2. I had the following problems occur which required me to reinstall.
1) SQL 2014 Trial Expired
2) SCVMM Trial Expired
We have MSDN copies but unfortunately I chose the wrong packages to install from. So to fix the 2 problems I did the following:
1) Upgrade to SQL 2104 - using MSDN
2) Uninstall of SCOM 2012 R2
3) Reset SCVMM service account password before removal of SCVMM. (Trying to gain access to enter the license key - didn't work).
I am trying to install SCVMM again and am getting the following error:
Unable to connect to the VMM database because of a general database failure.
Ensure that the SQL Server is running and configured correctly, then try the operation again.
Can someone help me out here? I added the scvmm service account to the sql database (hopefully correctly) but that doesn't seem to have made a difference.
Thanks
Robert

Yeah. So this was an install over the top on the same SQL server as before. No servernames, ips etc were changed.

I did try that and it didn't seem to work. I will give it one more shot but I don't think that's it.

So as expected logging on via the SCVMM service account and trying the install did not work. Any other ideas? I cant be the first person to encounter this issue here so I am sure this is something simple to fix.

Did you removed SCVMM all folders and subfolders from your HDD before you;re try to reinstall it ?
Also you should go through registry and this to find everything called SCVMM and remove it.
To modify the connection string to connect to the VMM database
In the registry, navigate to the following subkey: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWA
Right-click ConnectionString, click Modify, and then change the Server= value data by deleting the IP address and replacing it with the name for the remote SQL Server-based computer.
