ESXI upgrade advice

I'm upgrading 2 hosts in a cluster on Thursday both running 5 1, I'm upgrading to 5.5. we can't have down time so I'm moving VMs between hosts. My question is, if I upgrade one host to 5.5 can I move the VMs that are on 5.1 to it?

Thanks all, what the latest version of vcenter and ESXI 5.5? Is it update 3e?
The latest was released yesterday

ESXi-5.5.0-20170304001-standard (Build 5230635)

If you want a really quick way to complete an upgrade, Power off ALL VMs, or vMotion them off the host,

Enter maintenance mode (and if ESXi has access to Internet) type the following
esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e true -r httpClient
esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-5.5.0-20170304001-standard -d https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml
esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e false -r httpClient

This will pull down the upgrade from the interweb, and apply to host, shutdown/restart host, reboot, and your done!

But do make sure you Upgrade vCenter Server from 5.1 to 5.5 first!

Thanks Andrew,

I feel more comfortable upgrading via the iso, I think ill stick with HPE Custom Image for ESXi 5.5.0 U3b GA for my hosts and vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3e for vcenter.

Do you see any issues with that?
You asked if it was the latest, it's not.

Yes, not the latest, which has all the Critical and Security issues fixed.

vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3e? What would you recommend?
ESXi 5.5 u3b is now 12 months old.

latest vCenter Server is vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3e.

(correct version!).

OK thanks Andrew.  I'll go with latest vCenter Server 5.5 Update 3e. I'll do some more research before chosing my ESXI 5.5 version
Whatever you do

1. Check your Servers are on the HCL and supported for 5.5.

2. Update firmware on the servers before you install 5.5.

VMware, a software company founded in 1998, was one of the first commercially successful companies to offer x86 virtualization. The storage company EMC purchased VMware in 1994. Dell Technologies acquired EMC in 2016. VMware’s parent company is now Dell Technologies. VMware has many software products that run on desktops, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and macOS, which allows the virtualizing of the x86 architecture. Its enterprise software hypervisor for servers, VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi), is a bare-metal hypervisor that runs directly on the server hardware and does not require an additional underlying operating system.
