In wqindows 7, if I highlighted a photo thumbnail, the date created and file size appeared at the bottom of the explorer window. Now, all I see is the number of items, how many items are selected, the file size and state (online or not). I need the files creation date. How do I set this as a default?

They moved it to the details pane. Click the View tab at the top of the window then click "Details pane" to turn it on.

I do not have windows 10 with me right now. I can check in morning
try this

Go to any folder and choose View> choose details. Select which details to show.
Right clicking on any jpg and choosing properties> general, should show date Created, date Modified and date Accessed.

And cjeck the details pane

Or you can experiment with the different layout options on the View tab. Content might work well for your situation. It has a little thumbnail (little being the operative word) and shows the date taken and size.
