I have lync server 2010 and I have exchange server 2007,
I need to know does lync talk to exchange or free busy as when when we go to meeting ms lync shows red (in meeting)
if so how or does it pull AD attributes of user or talk to AD server
we have Unified messaging disabled in exchange

can you give me some hint where to look
When you installed Lync, it read the AD schema. Your accounts that use Lync are in AD. Everything is directly tied into AD.
I'm not sure there is going to be any place you can actually look.
Maybe if you want to dig around with Netmon or Wireshark.,,

Glad I could help.
Lync and Exchange both exchange information through AD.
Unified messaging wouldn't have anything to do in this scenario as UM is for integration with phones.
