you may run regedit and search for the filename of the logfile. i would assume it should be defined as text string in 'Run' or 'RunOnce' either below HKEY_CURRENT_USER or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE at Software\Microsoft\Windows<wbr />\CurrentVe<wbr />rsion.<br />

I am attaching the screen shots for both &quot;run&quot; setting and I see nothing. Both of the &quot;Runonce&quot; setting were empty.<br />

there might be some other causes. is the startup folder completely empty? you also may check task scheduler.<br />

Yes, the startup folder is completely empty.<br />
I checked task scheduler and there was nothing obvious. It took awhile to look through all of the Microsoft tasks. The non-Microsoft tasks were quick and easy but it doesn't look like any of them are the issue.<br />
I can't move the file because I don't know what the filename is; it doesn't show the file name in any program I use to open it. <br />
I can't believe I can't find what is causing this.

Turns out there was a file named &quot;Alien&quot; without an extension in the &quot;Users&quot; directory. After deleting it and several similarly named files the problem went away.<br />

I recently installed Visual Studio 2017 and after that whenever I reboot my computer I get a prompt asking me which program do I want to use to open an unnamed file. I picked wordpad and it opens a text file that appears to be the install log for .NET SDK. My question is how do I get rid of this prompt to open the install log? I looked in &quot;Startup&quot; and msconfig and I can't find anything doing that. Any ideas what is causing this and how to get rid of it?<br />
