how to force a GPO update on all computers in a domain at once?

we are trying to deploy an MSI via startup script to about 500 workstations, the script works, the issue is that most machines GPOs are not being updated. they are Windows 7 client and the server Windows Server 2008. how can i force update all the client GPO's? this is easy in 2012 and up but i have no idea how to do it in 2008.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You have to use a utility like PSExec to push the command out. If you have remote powershell enabled and accessible on all the computers, you can run
get-adcomputer | invoke-command -scriptblock {"gpupdate /force"}
