SharePoint 2013 List Content Type
Hello experts. I am somewhat new to SharePoint. We are using SharePoint 2013 and like most store many documents. Our documents have retention times on them so Under List Content Type there is a column we created called Retention Date. My question is two fold. What I would like to do is create some sort of email alert that lets certain people know when a document is set to expire. Now because our retention times are so far out I do not want to use a work flow for this. So is there an alternate method and if so what can I do? Everything I am reading discourages directly accessing the data via management studio. Also where does this list content get stored in the DB?
Hope I was clear on this but to sum it up how do I create an alert without using a workflow based on a list content column we created called Retention Date?
Thanks....
