Networking Monitoring Tools
Hi Experts,
We just implemented a new VoIP telephone system and we are experiencing so random cracking and static on some of the phone calls.
The implementation guys are saying this is a network issue but I do not think this is the case since we did a voice readiness test before we started the implementation phase and the report did not show any issues.
Any suggestions on what ma be causing his issue?
Any suggestions on a tool that I may use to monitor and track down any phone quality issues?
Thanks

Have you setup QoS to ensure VoIP packets get priority? A best practice would be to put VoIP on it's own network - including it's own PHYSICAL network.

some vendors provide network statistics at the telephones (at least cisco).
this would give informations about relevant network data.

Thank you all for responding, I appreciate it.
Just a Little more information, we are currently not using QOS in our network switches and all phone traffic goes through a dedicated bounded PRI link, no SIP traffic. We are using the Avaya's PBX suite, server edition.
I hope the above information shed a little more lite on my environment.

I am checking out the suggestions and have some quick questions.
What kind of traffic should I look for in a wire shark capture?
How would I be able to tell what is causing the issues from the wireshark capture?
Thanks,

You're looking for things like signs of network congestion, packet loss or latency... also, what type of internet connection do you have, and what speed (both upload and download)? How many users are at the location?

Thank you all for your help. We eventually found out that this is not network related, and that we had a faulty PRI circuit.
I will investigate the recommended tools so next time I will have some kind of tool to help in my troubleshooting.
