VMWare & NAS

We have server running VMWare with window 2012 and recently purchased WD My Cloud EX4100.
Now we want to grand permission to some of the folders as well as sub folders.

I was able to grand permission to parents folders but can't do in sub folders.

Can you guy tell me it is possible to grand permission to sub folders at all?

Inside of the VMs we have one window server 2012 and nas drive just has some files that we want to let our employees to access(read/write)
just like sale dept folder can be accessed by sale only
NAS Drive - could you expand, is this iSCSI, NFS or Windows Share ?
I am not sure.  but this is what we purchased below. All we do so far is to add files in the folder.

I have found a post on WD forums which seems relevant ...if not we need more info about your setup.
how has this been added to window server 2012, do users need to go through the Windows Server, or direct to the NAS ?

can you tell us how they access the NAS ?

e.g. what do they type ?
Okay looking at the specifications, this is nothing to do with Windows 2012, and can be accessed standalone as a Windows File Server.

So you need to login to the NAS, and setup Read and Write permissions for users.

Depending upon where you share the parent, permissions should replicate through the folder structure.
I did login the NAS

Assume I have Sales Folder >> Set Permission >> Everyone in Sale
Assume I have sub folder inside of Sales called Manager and I want to grand permission to John Smith (he is the manager of sale group).
Can I do that?
Okay, you have got Share Permissions and you may have File Systems Security. (NTFS).

Usually you would Set permissions on a Share, e.g. you could add a group. So everyone in the Group Everyone in Sales, would have access to the file share, and be able to read and write all files and folders in that file share.

This would include the Sub Folder, so Group Everyone in Sales would also have access to that Folder.

The way then to prevent this, would be to Set Security Permissions on the Folder, so only John Smith could have access.

You can do this on a Windows Computer.

However, on a NAS it used the file system of the NAS device, so it very much depends on what file system is in use.
Not sure I understand u correctly.

Can you share with me it is correct below

1 sale folder to everyone - go the server and do what?
2 manager inside of folder - go the server and do what?

3. About the cloud portal - I can join the ad for sure but should I just not to use it at all for the permission tasks?

I just need very clear way to get start
1. Set Share permissions to Group Sales

2. Set Folder (security) permissions - to user John only.

It will need to be AD joined to do this, and you also need to make sure NTFS permissions can be set.
1. Set Share permissions to Group Sales - what is that mean?
