Toshiba Laptop Function Key

On a Toshiba Satellite L675, with Windows 10.  I'm having trouble using the 1, 2, 3, 4 keys and the space bar.  When I push and hold the FN key they work, Without pushing the Function key they do not work.

This is a Windows 10 upgrade from Win 7.  All worked well before the upgrade.

I've uninstalled drivers and rebooted.  I've downloaded and installed new drivers from the Toshiba site.  None of that works.  Any more suggestions to make these unusable keys work again.?

Have you tried disabling the fn key in bios?

Thanks.  I just checked the BIOS settings and there is nothing for Fn key.  This is an American Megatrends 2010 BIOS.

Try to change your keyboard layout from control panel > Region and language > keyboards and languages > change Keyboards > check if English (United States) is selected.
Try an external keyboard to see if the issue persists there. Also, you can try a bootable DVD to see if the keyboard works from some different OS environment.

Thanks.  Did the external keyboard and all keys work on external fine.
I didn't see any Windows 10 supported driver for your laptop in Toshiba Support website,  and this means that your computer drivers are not set exactly for Windows 10. you had to check this before upgrading to Windows 10.

Its possible to be a Win 10 driver issue,  but it could also be a coincidental hardware failure.  Try booting the laptop from an external source:  old windows install disk, or a linux boot disk, or any bootable device that will accept keystrokes.  If the laptop keyboard works there, then its very likely a win 10 driver issue.  If the keyboard fails, then its a hardware issue.  Could be as simple as the ribbon connector jarred loose or maybe you need a new keyboard (they are not expensive and usually easy to replace on windows laptops).
Are you talking about the upper numeral keys or about the numpad at the right?
Have you checked if this tip works for you?

Click on Start --> Control Panel --> Ease of Access --> Ease of Access Center -->

Click on "Make the mouse easier to use" --> Under Control the mouse with the

keyboard, uncheck the check box "Turn ON Mouse Keys" --> Click on OK.
When was the last time you clean the keyboard with some compressed air, something maybe sticking or you just might need a new keyboard
Natty  Thanks.  The problem key's work fine when I push in the Function Key.  Don't think it's a sticking key problem.  Since it's a questionable Windows installation (meaning missing drivers for other processes) I decided to redo the windows installation.  That led to other problems during the install.  such as:  the windows 10 install freezes at the very early stages of the install process.  This leads me to wonder about the condition of the hard drive.

Fred,  Will do the diagnostics on this.  It's become a low priority issue and will try to get to it later this week.  Now I have a bigger issue to solve.

See my next question

Thanks, Dan
